So, where are we going?

Posted by Luke J. Wilson on 10th April 2014 in judgement | judgement, hell, Revelations, Jesus, Great White Throne
On judgement ...there is only the Spiritual realm, ...and to which one either serves God in heaven or resides in hell awaiting Judgment. Is it as simple as that? This is an actual quote from someone during an online discussion on the subject, but this is not anything against who ever said it, but rather a response to the prevailing view behind it that people generally seem to adhere to. The topic of Hell in itself is a rather large subject that is much more complex that you might initially think, and is a topic I intend to cover here soon as a series. Anyway, back to the subject at hand. A lot of Christians would say that hell is the 'final destin...

An Examination of Conditional Immortality (Part One)

Posted by Luke J. Wilson on 25th May 2020 in Hell | Conditional Immortality,Annihilationism,church fathers,church history,Hell,theology
I know that "Conditional Immortality" is quite a divisive topic, and one you may have come across before (sometimes referred to as “Annihilationism”); and have been told outright that it’s “heresy” or false, or that it’s an emotional argument people want to believe because it ‘sounds nicer’ than the doctrine of Eternal Conscious Torment (ECT). Or maybe you’ve never even heard of this before and you didn’t realise there were alternative interpretations and views on hell. If you are new to this, in brief it means that “the wicked” will be removed from existence after judgement and finite torment, rather than living forever in torment. Any...

Palm Sunday and the End Times

Posted by Luke J. Wilson on 2nd April 2023 in Eschatology | eschatology, end times, palm sunday
...sovereign judgement of God coming upon a nation. If you want to understand more about this concept, see my other article: The Coming of Jesus: Coming on the clouds. When Jesus says that he is coming again, hinted at in the parable, and at other times that he will come “on the clouds”, we must remember that this is a reference to a prophecy set within a context of God doing some judging (Dan 7:10). This language isn’t unique to Daniel either, but is a typical example of apocalyptic imagery used by prophets. He then returned “in the clouds” in the Roman-Jewish War of AD 66-70 to bring that judgement on the “delegation” that didn’t want him to be...

Is there salvation for fallen angels?

Posted by Luke J. Wilson on 5th February 2018 in Angels | demons,demonology,fallen angels,salvation,reconcilliation,Christ,angels
...I've seen and heard this question asked numerous times before, and I've even wondered it myself in my earlier years as a new Christian. Is there salvation for angels and can demons go back to their previous, uncorrupted state? 2 Corinthians 11:14And no wonder! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. As far as scripture is concerned, Satan can pretend to be angelic for the sake of deceit, but that's about it. There's no mention of redemption for angels or demons — that's the long and short of it. So let's explore four areas of Scripture to see what we do know. #1 They have been imprisoned for judgement by God. 2 Peter 2:4For if God did...

The Coming of Jesus: Coming on the clouds

...o begin a judgement process. Daniel 7:13-14 As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being    coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One    and was presented before him.To him was given dominion    and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages    should serve him.His dominion is an everlasting dominion    that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one    that shall never be destroyed. That line which says "like a human being" is translated in some Bibles as "like a son of man" which makes Jesus's reference a little clearer when comparing the texts, though the meaning is...

An Examination of Conditional Immortality (Part Two)

...executes judgement with fire and “by his sword, on all flesh”, and that the dead will be many, ending the chapter with the verse quoted above. Jeremiah picks up on a similar theme of God’s judgement, people being killed to such an extent there won’t be room to bury them. This is also where we find a reference to Gehenna, or the valley of the son of Hinnom, as its name means (also called Topheth), in chapters 7 and 19. The concept of Gehenna as a place of punishment is then picked up by Jesus in Matthew 10:28, which he uses in a more eschatological sense. Jeremiah 7:32–33Therefore, the days are surely coming, says the Lord, when it will no more be cal...
