The Eighth Day

...us a new creation through baptism and through our outworking of the faith, we reconcile the world back to God as co-workers with Jesus (1 Corinthians 3:9)! 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.   Resting with God This is God showing that things work differently now. No longer is he only found in a physical brick and mortar temple, or a specific holy place (as Jesus points out in John 4:21) – now G...

It's no longer about land!

As far as Paul was concerned, once you were in Christ, the old was gone and the new had come already: 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! Galatians 6:15 For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything; but a new c...

Was there death before the Fall?

Posted by Luke J. Wilson on 15th April 2014 in Death | Sheol,the Fall,creation,Genesis,Adam and Eve,death,resurrection
...It is often said and believed by many that our souls are immortal - that God gave us a spirit/soul that cannot die when he created us, and that death was not even a concept or reality before Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. Despite this idea being a fairly "recent" concept (in terms of history and theology), and it stemming from Greek philosophy, it's also not supported by the Biblical text - especially in Genesis. Lets look at the creation account in Gen 2:7— then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being. The word "being" in that verse, or "sou...

...nto a new creation, despite keeping our “old” bodies in the meantime. This, I believe, is why there was such an emphasis on the importance of baptism in the early Church, and why it’s something sacred we should also highly esteem and not take lightly. As another blogger puts it, “baptism conveyed the gift of the Spirit and his illuminating and sanctifying roles … in being baptized, the new Christian experienced death (to self) and rebirth. Finally, baptism proclaimed the eschatological hope for restoration in the new creation.” With that in mind, let's take a look at how baptism and resurrection relate to one another: Colossians 2:12When you wer...

New Covenant Israel is no longer physical (nor literal)!

BOOK REVIEW: Four Views on Hell 2nd edition

Posted by David Jakubovic on 17th March 2021 in Book Review |
...his good creation.” (64) Turning to his preferred designation ‘terminal punishment’, he scrutinizes the key words ‘eternal’, ‘destroy’ and ‘death’. He establishes that ‘eternal’ [ôlâm] may describe things in the OT that came to an end, such as rites (Ex 12:24-5, 29: 4-9) or the Solomonic temple that would be a place for God to dwell in ‘forever’ (1 Kgs 8:6, 12-13); equally, in the NT, he shows that ‘eternal’ [aiônion] can pertain to ‘the age to come’ such as ‘eternal life’ in John. But he underscores too that, while ‘eternal’ in the NT does indeed indicate perpetual or ‘without end’, it is often collocationally...
